THURSDAY THE INDEPENDENT CO gC & FREE PRESS sot $2.00 | CONNECTED TO YOUR COMMUNITY | THEIFP.CA Temporary Closure of Runway 06L/24R di Toronto Pearson 2022 runway OBL/24I aw’ rehabilitation project Like all major infrastructure, the airport's runways need regular maintenance to keep them safe. Toronto Pearson has temporarily closed east/west runway O6L/24R, the airport's second busiest runway, for a full repair. This project is one of the largest runway repair projects in the airport's history. The work will be completed in phases and will last to late Fall. Significant progress has been made since the start of the project in April 2022 and the project is now moving into Phase 2. What does runway rehabilitation work mean for local communities? We are working in close partnership with our industry partners and construction contractor to deliver a project that minimizes impacts — both to you in our communities, and to the airport operation. Despite these efforts, communities near the airport, including those who typically have fewer aircraft overhead, can expect more aircraft noise. During Phase 2, communities northwest, southeast, north and south of the airport may experience an increase of aircraft overhead. This phase is scheduled to last the summer. There is no permanent airspace change associated with this project. Our commitment to you is to keep you informed and mitigate impacts where possible.
