- An Old Settler Gone.
On Thursday last the inhabitants of Acton and vicinity were amazed at hearing of the sudden death of Mr. Geo. Wright, of Nassagaweya. Mrs. Wright had been buried about a week before, and at that time Mr. Wright appeared to be as hearty as ever, although no doubt deeply feeling his bereavement. It seems that the sickness of Mr. W. very much resembled the disease to which his wife succumbed, and these circumstances led to an examination which resulted in finding a lot of decayed fruit and vegetables in the cellar and immediately beneath the room occupied by the old and respected couple as a bedroom, and it is supposed that the foul air arising from these unhealthy substances was the cause of their ailments.
Mr. Wright was a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, and came to Canada over twenty-five years ago, settling then in this neighborhood. He was a man of intelligence, but owing to the small extent of his means he depended on his daily labor for support, and consequently had very little time to spend in feeding his mind. The old couple who were so suddenly called away, leaves a family, and a large circle of friends, to mourn the loss. - Media Type
