The number of public sector employees in Halton whose annual salary topped $100,000 last year grew significantly over the previous year, with the biggest increase at the Halton District School Board (HDSB). At the board, the number of employees who earned at least $100,000 more than doubled. In 2005 36 HDSB employees made the elite list, but that number shot up to 83 last year. Halton Catholic District School Board had seven additional employees, for a total of 26 earning $100,000 or more last year compared to 19 in 2005. Halton Region also saw a significant increase in top earners with 74 making the list last year compared to 60 in 2005. At the Town of Halton Hills only one more employee than the previous year earned big bucks. There were seven in 2005 and eight in 2006. The names and salaries of the top earning public sector employees were included on the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Report for 2006, recently released by the Ontario Ministry of Finance. The following is the breakdown of some topearning public sector employees in Halton. TOWN OF HALTON HILLS Dennis Perlin (CAO)-- $163,255 Richard Henry (Director, Engineering, Public Works/Building Services)-- $118,563 Terry Alyman (Director, Recreation & Parks), Edward DeSousa (Director, Finance & Treasurer), Bruce MacLean (Director, Planning), Robert Meads (Fire Chief-retired)-- $116,061 each Karen Landry (Town Clerk)-- $101,984 Jane Diamanti (Director, Library Services)-- $101,808 HALTON REGION Brent Marshall (CAO-retired)-- $197,102 Jane MacCaskill (CAO)-- $166,452 Dr. Bob Nosal (Medical Officer of Health)-- $189,890 Adelina Urbanski (Commissioner, Social and Community Services)-- $174,209 Tom Clark (Director, Human Resources Services)-- $155,776 Peter Crockett (Commissioner, Planning & Public Works)-- $166,240 Mark Meneray (Director, Legal Services)-- $160,211 Joyce Savoline (Regional Chairman)-- $134,521 Ean Algar (Chief of Police-retired)-- $170,919 Gary Crowell (Chief of Police)-- $161,061 Michael Kingston (Uniform, Deputy Chief)-- $145,195 Keith Gregory (District Commander, Superintendent)-- $129,894 HALTON CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD Lou Piovesan (Director, Education)-- $162,300 Paul McMahon (Superintendent, Business Services and Treasurer of the Board)-- $144,505. HALTON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD Wayne Jourdrie (Director)-- $200,040 Barry Finlay (Associate Director)-- $163,882 Ruth Peden (Associate Director)-- $144,127 Dawn Beckett-Morton (Executive Officer of Human Resources)-- $137,238 Superintendents made salaries in the range of $139,000. A total of 51 principals and one viceprincipal made $100,000 or more.
