Dear editor, This past Christmas the Georgetown Bread Basket facility was literally filled with food. During the two weeks before Christmas schools, businesses and individuals dropped off food every time the facility was open. We had to finally ask several schools to hold the food, from their food drives, until the new year so we could make room for it. This is a tribute to the extremely generous people of Halton Hills. Since it was obvious to us that so many people wanted to help, we thought we should advise residents that we also need cash. We are 100 per cent volunteer-operated, both the directors and the weekly volunteers, and there is no financial assistance from the government. We therefore have to have enough cash to pay the rent on Unit 12, 55 Sinclair Avenue, as well as all other up-keeping costs. Cash on hand also allows us to buy particular foods we may run out of. We operate entirely on cash donations or the fundraising activities we plan and carry out. Cash donations of $10 or more receive a tax receipt. People sometimes find it easier to send a cheque, or drop off cash, and we want residents to know they are helping every bit as much with such a donation. Whatever the donation, we are truly thankful you are there, working with us, to feed those in our community who need our help. Marian Viant, Director media co-ordinator Georgetown Bread Basket
