Full Text

Halton Hills council will debate the final draft of the Official Plan-- the document that will govern all planning in the Town of Halton Hills until 2021-- at Monday's council meeting (Sept. 18). The approval was deferred from the Sept. 5 meeting due to the lateness of the hour (11 p.m.) The draft will replace the outdated 1985 Official Plan, and its primary goal is to retain the small town/rural character with a environment-first planning approach. At last week's council meeting, POWER (Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources) president Leslie Adams requested minor wording changes to de-emphasize the aggregate industry in various policies. She called the approval of the Official Plan as one of the most important things council will do this term. Norm Elliott, a former Acton councillor speaking as a citizen of Acton, expressed concern about the greenbelt restrictions surrounding that community that could prevent expansion for 15 years or more. He cited a potential for growth east of Acton around Fourth Line. For more information on the Official Plan, check out the Town's website www.haltonhills.ca
