John Leckie scored three touchdowns and Simon Treviranus threw three touchdown passes as the Halton Hills Wildcats junior varsity team clinched second spot in the Ontario Minor Football League standings with a 27-18 road win over the TNT Express on Sunday. The win improved the Wildcats' record to 6-2 and came following two straight losses to the Toronto Junior Argonauts. By clinching second spot, Halton Hills will have home-field advantage for the first round of the playoffs against either the Express or Mississauga Warriors. Rob Cutting opened the scoring Sunday, catching a 30-yard touchdown pass from Treviranus on Halton Hills' second possession of the game. However, Cutting's convert attempt was blocked. The Express rallied to take a 12-6 lead before Treviranus hit Leckie on a 65-yard touchdown pass that Cutting converted to give the Wildcats a 13-12 advantage. TNT, however, scored once again for an 18-13 lead, but Leckie gave Halton Hills the lead once again, scoring on a 35-yard run late in the first half. Cutting's convert gave the visitors a 20-18 half-time lead. Treviranus and Leckie hooked up on another touchdown pass in the third, this one covering 40 yards. Cutting's third convert of the game gave the Wildcats their nine-point lead. The Wildcats' defence was able to force TNT to turn the ball over on downs with just over a minute remaining in the game. Halton Hills was then able to register the first down before being able to finally run out the clock for the victory. The Wildcats will complete its regular season Sunday at the Gellert Centre against Mississauga. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. In peewee action Sunday, the Wildcats led TNT 21-6 at halftime, but the Express was able to rally for the 27-21 victory, scoring the winning touchdown on a four-yard run on the game's final play. Halton Hills will cap its regular season Sunday at the Gellert Centre against the Halton Invictas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
