Bethany Winter, with mom Carla, get ready to participate in the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion event. Bethany was made honorary ambassador for the event.

A good-sized crowd of all ages gets ready to begin Halton Hills' first annual Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion event held at the Gellert Community Centre Sunday morning. Organized by the Town's Accessibility Advisory Committee, the community was invited to wheel, walk or run to raise funds and awareness to improve the quality of life of men, women and children with spinal cord injury. Forty per cent of the funds raised here will be directed to the Bethany Winter, a 10-year-old local girl with occipital encephalocele, a congenital neurological disorder. Her family will use the money to make her home wheelchair accessible.

Who's walking whom? Gord Wallen and his Special Skills dog Halle participated in the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion event.

Mayor Rick Bonnette greets Bethany Winter, honorary ambassador for Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion event.

Maria Smorong stretches her arms during the warmup before the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion event.
