Big Pond Rumours is a new literary arts press based in Acton. Founded in December by co-owners Sharon Berg and Shawn Drake, it is devoted to the promotion of new and established Canadian authors with primary focus on poetry. The press launches its first author-- Berg-- and its first poetry voice CD. This is a self-titled work by Sharon Berg and is a recording of previous work. According to her bio, Berg was a popular Canadian poet in the 1980s, who was celebrated for her vividly candid portraits of motherhood and other relationships through her verse. Berg's first book was To a Young Horse (Borealis Press, 1979), and her second book, The Body Labyrinth was released by Coach House Press in 1984. Berg has recently emerged from a 24year hiatus to release both new work and this CD of previously recorded poems. This poetry voice CD is an authorized recovery of audio recordings first released as two audio cassette tapes in 1985 and 1986. It recaptures the reading given during November 1985 in Ottawa. Now, collected on one CD, it offers almost 24 minutes of poetry read by the author to a live audience. Big Pond Rumours has arranged for the launch of this CD on April 30, 1-3 p.m. at Starlight Café, 35 Mill St. in Acton. The event is free and open to all. The CDs will be available for sale and Berg will offer several short readings from the CD. For more information contact the Press, 519-853-8379 or visit http://www.Sharonberg.com/
