Winter is barely a month old and already we are thinking about this fall and the arrival of our future class of those students currently in Grade 8! For the past several weeks, staff, students and parent council members have been preparing for a special Grade 8 Open House to be held at Georgetown District High School next Tuesday, January 17th. All current Grade 8 students, their parents and siblings are invited to attend this evening devoted to showcasing the many excellent programs offered at GDHS, from academics, technology and the arts, to sports, special interest clubs and co-curricular activities. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. when pizza and pop, that favourite teenage menu, will be available in the library foyer. Various displays will offer information about school departments, organizations, clubs and parent groups. At 6 p.m., separate information sessions will be offered to explain our Special Education Services, French Immersion curriculum and,new this year, our International Baccalaureate Program. A 45-minute assembly, held in the cafetorium at 6:45p.m., will provide an overview of the Grade 9 program and the optional course selection process. This will be followed by guided tours of the school, including all departments and facilities, where further displays and information will be available. This is an excellent opportunity to explore the school, meet your future teachers and to ask lots of questions. Maps and program information will be provided at the event, along with answers to all those questions. We look forward to seeing you at GDHS next Tuesday and in September, too!
The GDHS Parent Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the school library. Guest speakers are regularly featured and are advertised in the Community Calendar. All interested members of the community are more than welcome to attend. Our next meeting is February 14. --By Sarah Burrows, GDHS Parent Council Services,
