The water that the Grand Trunk Railway uses is worth more than $700 a year to the Grand Trunk. It is also worth more than $700 a year to this corporation. We confess that we are disappointed at the failure of the Grand Trunk and the Council to come to terms, but we believe also that the Council would be open to very severe censure should they sell the water to the railway on any such terms as were included in the ten-year contract that has just expired. It is regretted that a mutually equitable agreement could not have been arranged, but the failure simply places upon the Council the responsibility of finding a market elsewhere for what water we have to spare after making sure that our fire protection system shall be in no way impaired. This can easily be done.
