ARMSTRONG, John Russell -- With great sorrow, we announce the death of Dr. John Armstrong, B.D., D.D. Partor Armstrong, a promanent Baptist minister for over 50 years, died peacefully at age 86 on Monday, October 12th in Milton. He began his ministry in 1932, and served in Belleville, Maple Hill, Hespler and Snowdon Baptist Church in Montreal. After three years in Toronto as Secretary of the Fellowship of Evengelical Baptist Churches, he went to Edmonton where he was a pastor for 12 years. Returning to Toronto, Pastor Armstrong served at Mount Pleasant Road Baptist Church in Milton. He was editor of the Evangelacal Baptist, a church magazine, for several years, in 1968, he was granted the honorary degree of Doctor of Devinity by Central Baptist Seminary. In 1995, Dr. Armstrong was bereaved by the death of his beloved wife of 61 years, Hewlen Esther Hayes. He is survived by son Russell and his wife Janet of Acton, Ontario and son Gordon and his wife Trudy of Victoria B.C. He will be missed as well by 8 grandchildren, Mark and his wife susan of Acton Martha of Bracebridge, Peter of Abu Dhabi, Rebecca of Toronto, Matthew of Acton and David, Ruth and Sharon all of Victoria B.C. as well as one great-grandchild, Alexandra of Acton. Funeral services will be held at Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Georgetown on Thursday, October 15th at 2 o'clock. Visitation will take place at the J. Scott Early Funeral Home, Milton, Ontario, on Wednesday, October 14th, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. "Well don, thou good and faithful servant" (Matt. 25//23)
