Lifelong friends to marry in England
Tom Warnes, a resident of Georgetown for the past 56 years is returning to his native England to marry a lifelong friend.
Mr. Warnes who worked at Orenda Engines, and was assistant manager at the L.C.B.O. store in town until he retired, came from Kerbymooreside, Yorkshire in 1916 and came to Georgetown in 1918. Here, he and his family have lived ever since.
On a holiday in England this summer, Mr. Warnes, now a widower, renewed his acquaintance with Miss Doris Turnbull, and decided to ge married. The couple will live in his hometown.
Through the years the families kept in touch and during World War II, Mr. Warnes visited them on leave. His daughter Mrs. Marilyn Moddison and his niece are accompanying Mr. Warnes to England for the wedding.
Georgetown Duplicate Bridge Club, where Ms. Warnes has been a member since its inception ten years ago, honored him at a going away party last week, and presented him with a gift.
