Full Text
On Sunday, April 14, Mrs. Robert Kennedy passed away after an illness of about a month, at the home of her son, Mr. R. D. Kennedy, at Perry Siding, British Columbia. Mrs. Kennedy was Miss Jane Hardy and came to Acton over fifty years ago. She was engaged for some time as a member of the teaching staff of Acton Public School and then married Mr. Robert Kennedy. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy resided on the farm lot 2, first line, Erin, until the death of her husband. Mrs. Kennedy was a woman of superior mental qualities. She was of a bright, happy disposition and a sincere Christian. She had attained the ripe age of eighty-six years, but her mind was a clear as ever and her physical strength greater than usual at her time of life. A year ago she went out to the field and gathered sufficient wheat to plat a hat. The hat was raffled in Slocan City and brought a substantial sum for the Red Cross. She also made a quilt for the Presbyterian Ladies' Aid. Mrs. Kennedy had a great love for the old home here and up to the very last enjoyed reading the FREE PRESS. The Nelson, B.C., Daily News says: "The funeral of Mrs. Robert Kennedy, mother of R. D. Kennedy, of Lemon Creek, took place on Wednesday last. The service was held at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. O. A. Huget officiating. Mrs. Parker presided at the organ. Many floral Tributes were to be noticed. Friends from Perry Siding and Lemon Creek attended the funeral. Mrs. Kennedy has lived in the Slocan valley for about nine years, coming from Ontario to make her home with her son and family."
