Death of Rev. Dr. J. A. R. Dickson
Rev. Dr. J. A. R. Dickson, for thirty-five years pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, Galt, and fifty years in the ministry, passed away Sunday evening at 10.30. A couple of years ago deceased was overcome in the pulpit. It was feared at that time he would not recover. He passed through the critical stage and since has rested and avoided any extra exertion. He had just returned at Christmas time from visiting his son at Grand Rapids, Michigan. A grown-up family survives. Dr. Dickson was no stranger in Acton. In 1902 he preached the anniversary sermons in Knox Church, during the pastorate of the late Rev. H. A. Macpherson. In 1893, in the old church he was one of the leading speakers at the first convention of Halton Christian Endeavor Society. H. P. Moore, County President, was in the chair. At the close of the convention Dr. Dickson suggested and led in singing a consecration hymn.
