Death of Sunderland Taylor
Acton lost a very worthy citizen when Sunderland Taylor passed away at the General Hospital, Guelph, on Tuesday morning. His death was due of lead poisoning contracted in a paint mill in Victoria, B.C., where he went on a prospecting trip a year ago last spring for a few months. He was ill there for several weeks but recovered and returned home in June and was in good health until Christmas. The lead seems, however, to have got into his systems and for the past five months he has never felt well. Mr. Taylor was born at Rochdale, Lancashire, England, 38 years ago. In 1890 he married Ruth Hannah, daughter of Edward Tweedale, of Rochdale, but who is now an esteemed resident of Acton. Three children blessed their home, but only George, who is seven years old, survives. Mr. Taylor came to Acton nine years ago last April and has been employed with the Acton Tanning Company most of the time since. His was a very happy home, and he proved himself a very worthy citizen. Early in life he became a Christian and when 21 years of age was licensed a local preacher in the Methodist Church, which position he held with acceptance until his death. He was an official member of the Methodist Church, Acton, was President of the King's Orderlies Bible Class and Assistant Secretary of the Sunday School. He was a charter member of Acton Branch of the Sons of England, and held the office of President of the Society at the time of his demise. The funeral service will be held this afternoon at three o'clock from the residence on Frederick Street and the remains will be laid away in Fairview Cemetery beside his baby boy which died seven years ago.
