The death occurred here last Friday of Robert Auld, better known as "Tailor Auld," at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Harry Gibbons, at the advanced age of eighty-three years.
Deceased was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1827. He was married to Miss Catharine Johnson, of Belfast, and six years later they came to Canada and settled on lot 3, on the second line, Erin, where they lived for 41 years. Mrs. Auld died on March 2th[sic], 1897. He then sold his property there and has since made his home with Mr. Gibbons. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and a Conservative.
Four children survive: Mrs. Harry Gibbons, Esquesing; William and Mrs. T. Ramshaw, Toronto; and Mrs. John Allan, Erin.
The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. G. P. Boddy, Toronto, the service being held in the Congregational Church. Interment took place in the cemetery (not readable). Messrs. David Ryder, Thomas Ryder, Mathias Lambert, John Smith, Martin Swackhamer and John Allan were the bearers.
