ROCKWOOD.
Another old settler of Eramosa has passed away in the person of the late George Dryden, who died at his residence, on Thursday, 28th Jan., after an illness of more than a year. Mr. Dryden was the eldest son of the late Thomas Dryden, of Eramosa, who emigrated from Scotland 62 years ago. George, who was then but a child had lived in Eramosa ever since and has, during his life, done even more than his share of converting what was at his birth a dense forest, unto the fertile and wealthy Township of Eramosa. In 1954 he married Miss Jane Fingland, of Eramosa, who with a family of four sons and three daughters, still survives him. Two of the daughters are married and one remains with her younger brother on the homestead. The eldest son Thomas has been for many years Reeve of West Garafraxa and a valuable member of the County Council. Two sons Geo. and Jas. R. are in the Medical Profession, the latter having been in Rockwood for this past 12 years, where by his devotion to his chosen calling, he has built up a lucrative practice. Mr. Dryden was always a quiet unambitious man, respected highly by all with whom he came in contact. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and has lived a consistent and God-fearing life. The funeral which took place on Saturday was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Marsh, assisted by Dr. Terrance and Rev. D. Strachan, and the remains interred in the Eramosa Union Cemetery.
